JACKSONVILLE, FL. - March 4, 2002 (BUSINESS JOURNAL) -
Jacksonville-based InMotion Pictures, which rents DVD movies and
players at airports across the nation, has upgraded its Web site
with technology from Jacksonville-based Capernaum. The upgrade allows
instantaneous confirmation of movie rentals. InMotion reports traffic
at inmotionpictures.com increased by 50 percent in one month with
more than 300,000 hits.
"The amount of reservations over the Web prior to the redesign
has doubled since the launch," said Kevin Finn, creative director
at Capernaum. Figures of online sales were not available.
"They knew they needed some more stuff on the Web, but they
didn't know how far we could take them," Finn said. "We
did some research and looked at Navision, their software that tracks
who's renting what and where, to integrate the two systems."
The new Web site is modeled after the ease of use at netflicks.com
or travelocity.com.
The redesigned site takes the old paperwork out of the equation.
"The customer would make a reservation through e-mail, which
then had to be physically processed," said Mike Duckworth,
technical lead for the InMotion project with Capernaum. "The
software is integrated with the Navision system so information flows
instantly to the kiosk at the airport."
The upgrade came in response to customer demand. "There's
always a line at the airport. You're waiting for security to check
your luggage, whatever, so we wanted to speed up our line by letting
you pre-book movies and players," said Barney Freedman, co-founder
of InMotion Pictures.
The software for the Web site also has a target marketing feature,
and customers can sign up for newsletters and the like. You can
also track your account, checkout history and pay history.
You can still just walk up to the InMotion kiosks and rent a video,
but by checking movies out online, all you have to do is walk up,
show them your ID and go.
InMotion Pictures is in 19 airports now with 24 kiosks.
"Sept. 11 put our plans on hold, but we'll open LaGuardia
on March 1 and Houston and LAX [in Los Angeles] by the end of the
year," Freedman said.
