This week, several members of the Capernaum crew headed out of
the office early to serve dinner to families at the Ronald McDonald
House. Arriving with two pans of lasagna, salad and French bread,
everyone worked together to prepare an Italian feast (that ironically
included French bread?). And while the lasagna took longer than
planned to cook, everyone enjoyed the experience and learned more
about one of the great service organizations serving the Jacksonville
community.
Ronald McDonald Houses offer temporary lodging for families who
have a child being treated in a medical facility. Whether a family's
home is close by or far away, Ronald McDonald Houses offer friendly,
welcoming environments to help families through stressful times.
Ronald McDonald Houses can be found all across the country and
around the world, each independent not for profit corporations with
their own board of directors. The Jacksonville House opened in 1988
and has been a valuable addition to the city's medical community
ever since. The Jacksonville house provides temporary lodging and
support for families, and operates four outreach programs which
allow them to touch the lives of even more families: Parent net,
Family Rooms, House Calls and Sibshops. Families from all over the
United States and the world stay with the Ronald McDonald House,
and they continually share their appreciation of the services they
receive.
Since its opening in 1988, the Jacksonville Ronald McDonald House
has served over 12,000 families through its many programs. Beginning
in 2001, their services more than doubled with the opening of a
new 42,000 square foot Ronald McDonald House.
